1.0 out of 5 stars This is a post from the forum., November 18, 2013
This review is from: X Rebirth - Windows (DVD-ROM)
I've been an X player ever since Reunion. While I couldn't really get into X3R, when TC came out I became addicted. I spent at least 1000 hours in-game, flying around, fighting enemies, doing missions, building a fleet, building trade and manufacturing empires, being a pirate, being a lost paranid, etc. I joined the community and was quite active around the forums when I got into another playthrough. In short, I became a dedicated fan.

I've been excited for Rebirth ever since it was rumored, back then when it was only nicknamed "TNBT" by the forum dwellers. Back then we knew next to nothing about the new game, only that is was in the works. I think most of the community was pretty excited to finally get a new game in the franchise, a step up from the old and dated engine, a brand new X game where it can shed the limitations of a decade old technology and really shine as a space simulator. Updated graphics, maybe a wide open universe instead of small sectors (Evochron... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Ready from Prime Time, November 15, 2013
This review is from: X Rebirth - Windows (DVD-ROM)
Update 1/07: After about a month and a half of messaging back and forth with Steam Support, Steam has credited my account for $49.99. To all you fellow US residents, you have a chance too if you're persistent.

Update 11/17: At this time, I have formally submitted a ticket with Steam to hopefully get a refund on this game, both because of glitches and because of gameplay that is shallow compared to what was promised. In a recent developer's thread in Steam's forums, it became abundantly clear that the developers are perfectly happy with the direction they've gone and do not see any fundamental flaws to their game, and that for me, was the final straw. I do not foresee improvements going in the direction that the X series core fanbase want. More insidious is the development of a running theory that X Rebirth was originally intended to be a console game, which for whatever reason failed to make its way onto Xbox, and was finally ported to PC, patched up graphically, and... 1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously wasted money., November 17, 2013
This review is from: X Rebirth - Windows (DVD-ROM)
Ugh.

If you like to micro manage everything in the game, this is the game for you.
No training or instructions needed, you get to figure out how everything works on your own.
You can't switch ships, you can't control how your other ships work or move.
You have to hire a member of the crew for each ship by going onto a space station, but of course you have to search the station to find them. there are a couple different jobs on the ship so, have fun finding them since not all the stations are one stop shopping for a crew.
All the ships have a captain, engineer, and defense officer. You also need to hire different people related to the ship's job, which I haven't figured out all them yet, nor do I intend to.
The story mode is sort of blah, acting is sort of blah, the game stuttering at random times even at the lowest settings is major blah.
The system maps are confusing as heck, unless you got a good memory for that, the space highways are... Read more
