5.0 out of 5 stars Win 7 OEM Clean Install, March 18, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack (New Packaging) (Software)
Don't understand some of the feedback on this product. I bought 2 copies to install on an old Pentium 4 desktop and an Asus Netbook, both with XP already installed. It worked wonderfully....but there are a few tips...before you start search on "clean install of Win 7" and you will find some great sites....one with a step by step illustrated guide. So here are my tips...change boot order to CD first in BIOS..start the install...choose 'custom install'...choose advanced and the window will give you the opportunity to delete existing partitions....delete all one by one, until you get a single entry with "unallocated space". TIP...if the delete button is grayed out after you delete one or two partitions, exit install by hitting the escape key and rebooting to restart install from the beginning. Delete remaining partitions and proceed with the install. The install on my netbook then went perfectly. On the desktop after deleting the partitions the system rebooted and... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy a new computer due to XP support ending-just buy this!, March 27, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack (New Packaging) (Software)
As stated in the description, this is a "clean install" or system builder version rather than an upgrade. Its better to do a clean install anyway. Its not hard to do even if you are not very computer savvy. A simple web search will yield many excellent tutorials on how to install it. Most of the complaints in other reviews are due to user error, not a fault in the product.

It was very easy to install. The most complicated part was changing the BIOS setting to make the system boot from the CD instead of the hard drive. I selected custom install and deleted one partition on the C drive. That was all I needed to do manually. The software did pretty much everything else itself. After an hour, WIndows 7 was installed, I had loaded all my programs, music, and documents back on, and downloaded antivirus software and a few other things I wanted.

Instead of trashing a perfectly good desktop I had built only 2 1/2 years ago, I spent $100 plus tax for Windows 7 and... Read more

XP to Win 7 install went fine. Do use Microsoft's free Easy Transfer tool if you want to save your settings from your old computer.
